Melbourne’s Yarra Valley will receive its first globally-branded, upscale hotel, when InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) opens its new high-end brand, voco, in the region.
Announced this week, the hotel group said voco Yarra Valley would open in Melbourne’s wine region in 2021, making it Australia’s second voco property along with voco Surfers Paradise.
voco sets itself apart from other IHG brands by creating a ‘destination’ for guests by providing a relaxing and enjoyable environment between eating and sleeping.
The Yarra Valley property will stand at a maximum of six stories and taper down to one storey on the opposite end. Inside there’ll be 170 rooms available to guests plus 20 cabins offering “an intimate Yarra Valley experience”.
Unique touches across the property include an on-site gin distillery, a lavender farm, a mirrored maze and an amphitheatre cut from natural ground.
voco Yarra Valley will also have a provedore (retail store) selling local Yarra Valley produce along with conference and meeting facilities, a gym, an onsite family restaurant and bars.
IHG’s Senior Director of Development – Australasia – Abhijay Sandilya said he’s excited to see the brand’s momentum continue with a second property in Australia and expects it will deliver “a guest experience that stands out”.
The hotel will be situated in at the gateway to the Yarra Valley of Maroondah Highway, less than an hour’s drive from Melbourne’s CBD, with prominent visibility to motorists and ample parking facilities to welcome road trippers from the capital.
