Melbourne’s first Shangri-La hotel is on its way with the ground broken on the city’s Sapphire By The Gardens development which is expected to open in 2021.

The development is mixed use. The Western Tower will be 62 stories high and home to the five-star Shangri-La hotel.

It will feature 500 guest rooms plus a gym, health and recreation centre, and a 1000-guest grand ballroom overlooking the Carlton Gardens.

The Eastern Tower, on the other hand, will be 60 stories and house 300 luxury residential apartments, most of which have already been sold.

The towers will be connected by a sky lounge on level 46 overlooking the UNESCO world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building and its surrounding Carlton Gardens. SWISH.

Located in the northeast corner of Melbourne’s CBD, near the culture and theatre precinct, the luxury hotel will be ideal for tourists visiting Melbourne.

Shangri-La Asia Limited CEO, LIM Beng Chee said that high demand for five-star accommodation in this thriving commercial and tourist precinct, coupled with strong hotel occupancy rates, made this location the perfect-fit to launch Shangri-La’s first Victorian offering.
