New Pullman to ease Sydney hotel woes

Accor’s new five-star hotel opening in the new $100 million multi-use precinct near Sydney Airport will help ease the city’s constrained accommodation sector, according to the company’s boss.

Accor’s new five-star hotel opening in the new $100 million multi-use precinct near Sydney Airport will help ease the city’s constrained accommodation sector, according to the company’s boss.

Simon McGrath said over the last two years Sydney’s hotel market has been “considerably constrained” with occupancies sitting at 80- to- 90-percent.

“Hence the urgency for new inventory to service the high corporate and leisure demand in the city.”

He said the new Pullman Sydney Airport will add 229 rooms in Sydney, which will accommodate around 452 visitors.

The property will be located in Mascot near Sydney Airport, where a new $100 million development project is currently underway. The project will feature a combination of retail and commercial spaces.

As well as introducing new beds in the city, Mr McGrath said the Pullman Sydney Airport will also be the first international branded five-star property available at the international airport precinct.

“Airports are no longer considered transport hubs, they are transforming into complete entities where hotels, conference centres, retail and office spaces co-exist.”

Construction of the hotel on O’Riordan Street, Mascot has commenced and is expected to be complete by May 2016.

It will include 229 accommodation rooms and suites, a restaurant and bar, conference facilities and fitness centre.

There will also be an executive lounge – a quiet space for guests to conduct business or just relax.

The property will feature Pullman’s Executive Lounge – a quiet place for business or just to relax.

Pullman Sydney Airport will be Accor’s 13th hotel and resort in Australia.

Earlier this month, the hotel group revealed it would also open three more hotels in Scotland – two in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow.

The property in Glasgow will open as an Ibis Styles and in Edinburgh there will be a new Mercure hotel and an Adagio.
