Auckland is getting a funky new hotel by luxury lifestyle brand SO/, with the promise of “shattering conventional hotel norms” and becoming one of the city’s hottest destinations.
SO/ Auckland, which is set to open in November in the city’s former Reserve Bank, marks the brand’s first foray into the New Zealand Market.
The hotel, which will form part of an artistic portfolio of just seven individual properties worldwide, has been designed with the help of Kiwi fashion innovators WORLD.
WORLD and SO/ Auckland have been working together for more than three years to fit out the 130-room hotel with its café, Club Signature lounge, SO Spa, SO Fit and indoor heated pool.
The ground floor of the hotel has been creatively fitted out by Dutch design house, Moooi while the rooms are filled with natural light, a bathtub, separate rain shower and a choice of harbour or city views.
Staff don’t wear name-tags and you can help yourself to the minibar because everything’s free. The HI SO rooftop has views of Rangitoto and the city of sails.
SO/ Auckland will offer a taste of French inspiration at Harbour Society restaurant on the 15th floor, helmed by French Chef Marc de Passorio, former owner of Michelin-starred restaurant, L’Esprit de la Violette.
SO/ Auckland General Manager Stephen Gould said the arrival of SO/ brought a new level of design audacity and boldness to the Auckland hotel scene.
