Travellers are increasingly looking for ‘cool’ travel stories to take home and the Sydney Opera House may have just delivered a super cool story for future generations.
Crew that manage and run the Opera House have announced a new partnership with Airbnb that according to Chief Executive, Louise Herron, will move the iconic building into the future.
Speaking to The Weekend Australian, Herron said tourists currently visiting the building will stand on its steps, take a photo and leave without experiencing what really happens inside.

In a bid to mend the disjointed relationship with travellers, the CEO has taken a step towards potentially making the building available to sleepovers.
“We’re trying to say, ‘This is the people’s house, come on in’ … and the next generation, that is the demographic that Airbnb is focused on.”

The first stage of the new partnership will give Airbnb’s super hosts – those with the best ratings – a behind-the-scenes tour of the building.
The second stage, which is yet to be confirmed, could include inviting people to stay a night in the building. We’re not sure where beds will be placed within the building, but even a single mattress in the foyer would make a pretty incredible travel story.
Airbnb’s Australian Country Manager, Sam McDonagh, told the Australian that the partnership is a ‘major step forward’ for the online accommodation site.
“And I think this is an indication not only of the forward thinking of the Sydney Opera House Trust, but of the NSW government and where Australia is heading in terms of embracing the sharing economy.”
