It’s a concept that is hard to get your head around but WOW it looks cool. A new five-star hotel in Shanghai is being built inside a quarry 88 metres BENEATH ground level. Two floors will even be underwater.
The InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, which is set to open later this year, will “reshape the relationship between city and nature”.
Developed by Shimao Group and managed by InterContinental Hotels Group, the hotel showcases unconventional design at its best.
The 18-storey hotel has 16 floors below ground including two underwater and two floors above ground.
Which room would you choose?
There will be 337 rooms and suites with balconies where guests can enjoy the view of the waterfalls from the surrounding cliffs.
The two underwater levels will feature a restaurant and guestrooms facing a ten-metre-deep aquarium.
Just a little bit cool, right?
The property will also offer a grand ballroom and four meeting rooms.
The hotel’s roof, which will be at ground level, will be an eco-friendly green toof that blends into the surrounding environment.
If you weren’t excited enough already, we should probably mention there will be an extreme sports centre over the quarry for extreme activities such as rock climbing and bungee jumping.
WOW
The wonderland will also have a more tame leisure complex with a swimming pool.
The property is located 30 kilometres from Hongqiao Airport and is close to attractions like Sheshan National Forest Park and Chenshan Botanic Gardens.
