The results are in. TripAdvisor has revealed the “Most Excellent” hotel chains in the world. Also known as those that have the highest percentage of TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence recipients globally.

The “Most Excellent” awards were handed down to an elite selection of large, medium and small hotel groups around the world which consistently received glowing guest reviews on the site.

So without further ado, here are the best hotel chains right now, as voted by TripAdvisor users from across the world.

The “Most Excellent” Large Hotel Chain


Preferred Hotels & Resorts are preferred indeed, coming in as the number one large hotel chain in the world followed by Hyatt Hotels Corporation at number 2, Hilton Worldwide Holdings at number 3, the Premier Inn in fourth place and Marriott International scoring fifth place.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts took out this category followed closely by Drury Hotels Company at number 2, The Indian Hotels Company (Taj and Vivanta) at number 3,  The Leading Hotels of the World was in fourth place and Shangri-La Group was in fifth.

The “Most Excellent” Small Hotel Chains

When it comes to small hotel chains, Belmond was voted in as the “most excellent” on offer worldwide. This was followed by The Oberoi Group at number 2, Loews Hotels & Co at number 3, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in fouth place and Jurys Inn in fifth.

To maintain their credibility these Certificate of Excellence recipients were selected using a proprietary algorithm that takes into account the quality, quantity, and recency of user reviews, as well as the business’ tenure on the site.

Recipients must maintain an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least twelve months.
