We’ve been chatting to our hospo friends, scouring the web and listening to the word on the grapevine to bring you a carefully curated list of the best hotel intel you need to know this week.

1. Baillie Lodges supports local artists

Hotel

Baillie Lodges has announced a return series of the popular artists-in-residence program at Longitude 131° this year. The program offers guests at Longitude 131° a rare chance to meet the artists from Ernabella Arts in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands whose vibrant ceramics, paintings, and weavings are seen around the luxury basecamp.

Part of an ongoing, mutually beneficial partnership between the luxury lodge and the arts community, the Ernabella artists-in-residence program sees some of the artists travel to Longitude 131° from their home in the Pukatja Homelands. The artists spend a few days on each visit setting up an open studio in the Dune House and painting – with a view to Uluru as the backdrop.

Planned dates for artists-in-residence visits in 2020 are:

  • March 23-28
  • May 11-16
  • July 20-25
  • September 21-26

2. Soneva’s Easter Programme

Soneva has unveiled a diverse and thrilling Easter Programme across its award-winning resorts in the Maldives and Thailand. With Soneva celebrating its milestone 25th anniversary in 2020, this seasonal programme is set to be the biggest yet.

Running between April 2 and 16, 2020, guests at Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani in the Maldives, and Soneva Kiri in Thailand, will have an unprecedented opportunity to meet their sporting heroes, learn from pre-eminent experts in wine and astronomy, and dine with pioneering gastronomes.

3. Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort goes plastic bottle free

Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast is pleased to announce its latest initiative, which has seen the resort swap plastic bottles for glass or aluminium throughout its guestrooms, restaurants and meeting spaces in an effort to reduce its footprint on the environment. The initiative is set to eliminate 179,000 plastic bottles from landfill each year.

4. Claire Haigh joins Accor

Hotel

Accor has appointed Claire Haigh as its new Director of Communications for the Pacific region.

In her new role, Haigh will lead communications for Accor Pacific’s hotel and resorts portfolio which includes Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Novotel, Mercure, Mantra, Peppers, Art Series, Swissotel and ibis, and premium membership platform Accor Vacation Club, across Australia, New Zealand, French Polynesia, and Fiji.

Haigh will also direct communications for Accor’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, and the group’s newly launched global lifestyle loyalty programme, Accor Live Limitless.

5. Anantara Brings Luxury to Malaysia’s Golden Shores

Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas has entered the Malaysian luxury hospitality sector with the opening of the brand new Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas.

Desaru Coast is located at the country’s south-eastern tip in Johor Bahru and spans along a pristine 17-kilometre beachfront facing the South China Sea. Desaru is easily accessible via a 45-minute drive from Malaysia’s Senai International Airport (JHB) and a two-hour drive from Singapore, additionally, visitors from Singapore can travel to Desaru Coast by ferry.

6. Central Vietnam Wellbeing Retreat

Alba Wellness Valley by Fusion is getting into the flow of things with new retreats that tap the healing powers of a geothermal spring at the resort’s heart.
