Chatting with Tina Almond from the Village travel in Brisbane last week, we uncovered that she had brought back a lot from her life-changing experience in Oman.

On reflection, it’s likely that her preparation before she went laid the platform for the openness needed to get the most out of her trip upon her return.

This week we reflect what it takes in the preparation for a trip to Oman so that it truly can be a #traveltochangetheworld experience.

What are your tips for someone considering going to Oman?

“Pack light! You only need the essentials so don’t stress, you can always buy something you forget.”

“Actually, it’s more ‘what’ I would say to people before they left and that is I can’t wait to speak to them when they get back because they would have been in awe every day.”

“You need to be open and you need to be aware that openness will lead to change. Oman is the experience for somebody looking for a different holiday, where they will experience everything from a modern city to rocky mountains to beach and desert. The landscapes will stun you. And that was all in just one small corner of the country.”

How about the different cultural norms & expectations?

“I say to people – you are going somewhere different and be respectful. Ask us what you need to know and take notice of the advice and information. Different clothing and different attitudes are required for different situations and locations.”

“Whilst sometimes you might feel like you are being fully covered to fit in, the people are welcoming, they are friendly, they are warm and authentic. Their beliefs are beautiful and it’s so important to go with an open mind and be prepared to be amazed.”

“Oman is a country that is slowly becoming popular with Australian tourists. It is somewhere different, interesting, safe, unique, simply stunning and an experience that touches you and stays with you.”

“The way of life is simple yet beautiful, the people are open and friendly and their smiles are infectious. They are passionate about their country and see and respect the beauty it has to offer. It sets the bar for the best holiday experience ever.”

“A stopover is not enough, if you’re going then do it right and stay a while. Speak to an expert and do your research as you really don’t want to miss out on anything”.
