Hurtigruten Steps In To Assist Stranded One Ocean Expeditions Passengers

In the light of further cancellations by One Ocean Expeditions, and ongoing uncertainty about the line’s future Hurtigruten has stepped in to offer a compassionate fare.

This special fare is available to passengers affected by the cancellations or concerned about their One Ocean Expeditions bookings for the coming season.

“We understand the stress cancellations cause Agents and travellers so Hurtigruten has taken the decision to assist with re-bookings with a heavily reduced ‘compassionate fare’ for those directly impacted by cancelled cruises or potential cancellations this season,” Damian Perry, Managing Director Hurtigruten Asia Pacific said.

Important note: Hurtigruten’s offer is made independently of One Ocean Expeditions and any booking or financial disputes remain with One Ocean Expeditions and the traveller.

“As a business, our core values are caring about the environment, cultures, oceans and people. Although there will be a cost to Hurtigruten, we believe it is the right thing to do for travellers and agents and to help rebuild trust in our industry.”

The most recent cancellation (an 11-day Falkland Islands voyage that was supposed to leave on December 1) marks One Ocean Expeditions’ fourth sailing to be canned.

It comes after a tough year for the Canadian-based line. Earlier this year we reported that two of their cruise ships were “suddenly and unexpectedly” seized by Russian authorities.

In a statement issued to customers, managing director Andrew Prossin said the most recent cancellation was a result of complications encountered during a business restructure.

Customers were told the line would be in contact once restructuring had been completed regarding “any compensation possibilities”.

It’s not the first time this year Hurtigruten has stepped in to help travel customers in need this year.

Hurtigruten also stepped up to absorb lost deposits for passengers who had booked their cruise through the since defunct Bentours.
