InsideJapan Tours is making off-peak travel to Japan more affordable, permanently reducing prices on Small Group Tours (SGTs) during quieter seasons.
Marking 25 years of operating SGTs, InsideJapan has cut off-season tour prices by 15 per cent and shoulder season prices by 7 per cent, encouraging travellers to explore the country beyond peak periods.
Inside Travel Group Co-Founder Alastair Donnelly said each season offers unique experiences, from snow-covered temples in winter to vibrant summer festivals.
“There’s never a bad time to visit Japan and this isn’t about paying less for second best – far from it. It is a country blessed with magnificent scenery and experiences no matter what time you choose to visit,” he stated.

“We have made the conscious decision to reduce prices for off-peak and shoulder season SGTs for those who are eager to get out and explore at times when there are fewer crowds, and when your money goes further on the ground.”
The move is part of the operator’s strategy to ease overtourism, promote dispersal of travel and stimulate year-round holidays.
“Over the past 25 years, we have seen Japan transform from a niche destination to one of the world’s most sought-after travel spots, which has brought its benefits and challenges – particularly during the peak cherry blossom season,” Donnelly said.

“By visiting outside of the high seasons, the locals and tourists can intersect more freely, paving the way for more authentic connections. You’ll not only enjoy lower prices but also have the chance to experience Japan in a more relaxed atmosphere.”
SGT Programme Manager Richard Farmer added that the Asian nation’s 72 micro-seasons each hold something special for visitors.
“There will always be visitors to Japan, but if you go at a slightly quieter time, the crowds will be sparser. That means clearer views, shorter izakaya bar queues and perhaps a moment of solace at each shrine you visit,” Farmer said.

“You’ll still get to enjoy all the must-see sights and events, but with a local lens provided by our Insider tour leaders who open cultural doors and enable our travellers to glimpse a slice of everyday local life.”
As part of the initiative, travellers can save up to $2,518 on superior tours like Majestic Japan, featuring stays at a ryokan in Kinosaki Onsen.
Other itineraries, including Japan Unmasked (up to $1,767 off) and A Northern Soul up to $1,739) offer savings while showcasing the Asian nation’s cultural richness beyond the high seasons.
Late last year, Inside Travel Group, parent company of InsideJapan and InsideAsia, announced it aims to build on post-pandemic growth with a combined £20 million (around AU$39 million) investment from B Corp and specialist consumer brand investor Piper and Cool Japan Fund.
