$4m in one day: Intrepid breaks sales record for single day & month

To say November was a big month for Intrepid Travel would be putting it mildly. In November, the world’s largest B-Corp-certified travel company saw nearly $25 million in sales in Australia and New Zealand, contributing to the highest-grossing month in the tour operator’s history.

To say November was a big month for Intrepid Travel would be putting it mildly. In November, the world’s largest B-Corp-certified travel company saw nearly $25 million in sales in Australia and New Zealand, contributing to the highest-grossing month in the tour operator’s history.

The record month was largely due to Intrepid’s annual Cyber Sale, which earned the company $4 million on the final day alone.

In a hurry to book their holidays for 2024, local guest numbers for Intrepid rose by six per cent year-on-year for the month.

Japan, Peru, Morocco, Vietnam and Turkey were the top-selling destinations for Australians and New Zealanders, while South East Asia experienced a comeback, with Thailand and Cambodia passenger numbers growing 36 per cent and 41 per cent respectively.

Interestingly, recent bookings revealed a growing number of customers are avoiding peak season holidays in favour of shoulder season trips.

The most popular months to travel next year for passengers are September, April and May.

Intrepid’s Comfort and Premium range are proving popular among guests, ranking in the top three trip types, while Original trips have also picked up.

“These figures show that people are continuing to prioritise travel and experiences over material possessions, despite the cost of living pressures and economic uncertainty,” Intrepid Travel ANZ Managing Director Brett Mitchell said.

“We saw Japanese adventures be a hit amongst travellers as the top-selling destination, which resulted in Intrepid adding additional departures to meet this surge.”

Last month, the Melbourne-based company held its first Adventure Summit since the pandemic.
