Intrepid Travel’s not-for-profit The Intrepid Foundation has kick-started the Intrepid Vietnam Typhoon Yagi Appeal after the devastation caused by the tropical storm in Vietnam on 14 September 2024. Vietnam trips continue to operate with alternative itineraries to avoid impacted areas.
The Intrepid Vietnam Typhoon Yagi Appeal will directly support affected communities in Northern Vietnam through The Intrepid Foundation’s local partner, Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation.
All funds raised by The Intrepid Foundation will provide immediate relief to thousands of people without shelter, food and electricity due to flooding and landslides.
With impacts continuing to devastate some communities, Blue Dragon is working to provide immediate essentials to affected families.
When the waters recede, Blue Dragon will help with long-term recovery support, such as rebuilding homes destroyed by the tropical storm.
Intrepid Travel confirmed that all travellers and staff in Vietnam are safe and it will continue to operate trips.
Groups currently in Northern Vietnam are rerouted away from affected areas and provided with an alternative itinerary and inclusions.
Trips will resume in affected regions at the earliest opportunity to ensure local communities continue to benefit from the economic support of tourism.
Intrepid Travel has longstanding connections with Vietnam as the company’s first local country office, employing 100 team members, and its most popular destination.
The Intrepid Foundation has partnered with local community organisations in Vietnam for more than a decade and Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation is one of three long-term charity partners in the region.
The Intrepid Foundation General Manager Biheng Zhang said: “Typhoon Yagi has been the largest storm to impact Vietnam in over 30 years.”
“By supporting the Intrepid Vietnam Typhoon Yagi Appeal, the international travel community can directly contribute to the humanitarian relief efforts, supplying immediate needs to children and families across the 13 northern provinces.”
Super Typhoon Yagi, which has already triggered floods and landslides in Vietnam, Thailand, China and Laos, is now impacting Myanmar, causing severe flooding in the capital, Naypyidaw.
