Someone must’ve called his name three times & summoned him from the Netherworld because Beetlejuice is back baby, but instead of appearing on the big screen, he’s Broadway.
Fans of the green-haired, pasty-faced Betelgeuse may be calling for a sequel to the 80s cult classic, but creators have moved to a different rhythm by fashioning a musical version of the movie.
That’s right, Beetlejuice the musical and it’s right there on Broadway.
The Tim Burton hit opened at the Winter Garden Theatre on 25 April 2019, where viewers “were thrilled” for the return of the well-dressed demon, according to Broadway Inbound.
Much like the movie, the musical follows the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose house is haunted by a recently deceased couple and a demon named Beetlejuice.
Described as hilarious, Broadway Inbound said the musical “leaves audiences laughing long after curtain call”.

New to Broadway in 2019 is the musical adaptation of the 1982 film Tootise, which began playing at the Marquis Theatre on 23 April 2019, while the ever-popular Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has reigned the stage since making its debut in New York in April 2018.
Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations had travellers dancing in their seats at the Imperial Theatre since 21 March this year, while Hadestown – a reimagined love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice as well as King Hades and Persephone – has had people falling in love since 17 April.
Meanwhile, Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary 2001 film Moulin Rouge! will make its musical debut at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on 25 July 2019.
