Journey Beyond is set to significantly expand its footprint, striking a deal to acquire SeaLink’s tourism portfolio from Kelsian Group.
The agreement will expand Journey Beyond’s presence across some of Australia’s most recognisable destinations, adding ferry and cruise operations, island resorts and sightseeing tours to its existing rail and lodge portfolio.
Included in the acquisition are SeaLink and Captain Cook Cruises experiences in Sydney Harbour, Perth, the Whitsundays, Bruny Island and Darwin.
The deal also covers Kingfisher Bay Resort and K’gari Beach Resort, Murray Princess cruising and Adelaide Sightseeing.
Journey Beyond says the move will create more connected journeys for guests. For instance, travellers could pair an outback rail adventure with Top End touring or extend a South Australian trip with curated local experiences.

“This agreement marks an exciting step forward for Journey Beyond,” Journey Beyond CEO Chris Tallent said.
“We are proud to broaden our portfolio with a collection of highly respected tourism businesses that share our commitment to delivering extraordinary guest experiences.”
Tallent added that the acquisitions were also “highly complementary to our existing brands”.
“They create new opportunities for guests to seamlessly extend their journeys across Australia – whether that’s transitioning from rail to reef, river to resort, or city to sea – and further cements Journey Beyond’s leadership in experiential tourism,” he remarked.
Completion remains subject to regulatory approvals.
KARRYON UNPACKS: This is vertical integration in action. For travel advisors, a broader Journey Beyond portfolio could mean simpler packaging, stronger commissions and more reasons to keep clients exploring Australia.
