KFC the travel agent? Fast food giant launches 'Kentucky Fried Fly Chicken'

Confused? So were we… Such is the uptick in travel, it seems everyone wants to get in on the action. But KFC?

Confused? So were we… Such is the uptick in travel, it seems everyone wants to get in on the action. But KFC?

“Everpolished off a Popcorn Chicken feed and wondered how those delicious morsels might be served up across the globe?” reads a press release from KFC Australia.

“Well, the Colonel is a man of many talents and travel agent is now at the top of the list.”

Well not quite. And it would take a lot more than 11 secret herbs and spices to succeed. So actual travel agents, your jobs are safe.

Kentucky Fly Chicken?

In reality, the fast food giant has launched a competition that will see five “fans” jet off to five destinations around the world to “fly before you try”.

Called “Kentucky Fried Fly Chicken” (yes, you read that right), the comp will reward Australian KFC fans with trips to top-secret locations to taste items from international menus.

To enter the competition, “eager travellers” need to use the Aussie KFC app to search for hidden international menu items that can be found on Kentucky Fried Chicken menus in other parts of the world and add them to their cart. The entrants will then go in the draw (or bucket?) to experience the menu item in its country of origin.

The first winner, Sydney’s Lisa Wenban, has already returned from her trip. After finding KFC Japan’s ‘Wafu Cutlet Burger’ on the Aussie app, Wenban was whisked off to Tokyo for five days to experience Mt Fuji, Tokyo Disneyland, street go-karting, fish markets and the burger itself.

But there are four more trips up for grabs. And winners will travel in style, flying business class, staying in four-star accommodation and scoring spending money and cultural experiences to the value of $6,000.

“We love creating fresh and exciting opportunities for fans to interact with and try KFC,” KFC Australia Chief Marketing Officer Tami Cunningham said.

We’re not sure what’s going on here.

“Since the only thing better than an overseas trip is our delicious fried chicken, we saw the perfect opportunity to combine the two and offer our fans the chance to experience the trip of a lifetime with KFC at the heart.

“So, make sure you have the KFC app handy and get searching, because a world of KFC is dropping in the app, and you never know where you’ll be jet-setting to next.”

Until 18 March, participants have the chance to explore four new international menu items, revealed one by one over four weeks. To enter, all it takes is a minimum spend of $1 within the KFC app. Entrants must hold a valid Australian passport – and like chicken.
