Aurora Expeditions is bringing the North Pole to classrooms in a cool-as partnership with UpSchool, an Australian-based education platform, to school kids on the global significance of the icy environment, informed by an Arctic trip in June 2022.

The Australian adventure travel company and UpSchool will upskill students around the world through a brand-new, 10-week course that explores the important role this polar region plays on a global scale.

Aurora Expeditions CEO Michael Heath said: “We are proud to partner with UpSchool on this incredible project that will help raise awareness of the pivotal importance of the Arctic to the health of our planet.”

“Enrichment, education, deepening connections to the remote regions we visit and creating ambassadors for the protection of the environment is of huge importance to our company, and this partnership is one of many actions we are taking as part of a far-reaching sustainability-in-action plan.”

Cool for school

Children participating in the course will be encouraged to make a plan to change their community lifestyle to help contribute to positive environmental change.

“If you cannot take the child to the world, then bring the world to them,” said Gavin McCormack, co-founder of UpSchool, which also partners with the United Nations Association of Australia, Canva and Jane Goodall Institute to provide free courses and resources for 30,000 children and 1,000 teachers in 110 countries.

“Children need to be emotionally invested in a project if they are going to demonstrate the determination and perseverance required to make a real and tangible difference in the way the world works and throughout this 10-week course, we aim to bring the wonders of the Arctic to every child on Earth.”
