MSC Group’s Cruise Division has officially opened the world’s largest cruise terminal in Miami – and it’s massive.
Spanning some 46,000 square metres, which is equal to nearly nine American football fields (or more than six soccer fields), the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal can process up to 36,000 passengers per day and welcome three ships at once, including vessels from MSC Cruises and its luxury sister brand Explora Journeys.
A joint effort with PortMiami and Miami-Dade County, the new terminal also houses the company’s new US headquarters and an expanded Fort Lauderdale office.

Designed by Arquitectonica and built by Fincantieri Infrastructure, the sleek, light-filled space includes floor-to-ceiling windows, advanced biometric processing, speedy baggage systems and an exclusive lounge for MSC Yacht Club guests.
In addition, the facility houses seven public artworks commissioned via Miami-Dade’s Art in Public Places Program.
According to MSC Group, sustainability was front and centre of the project. The terminal uses shore power to cut emissions, features water recycling, waste systems and is targeting LEED Gold certification.
In terms of access, there are options for car, bus, taxi and rideshare, with a six-level garage boasting over 2,400 spaces.

Come 2025, four MSC ships will call the terminal home, including the new MSC World America and EXPLORA I, which returns to the Caribbean this November.
MSC says the facility sets a new benchmark for cruise infrastructure and forms part of MSC’s broader commitment to the US and Caribbean markets.
“Our new cruise terminal is the most advanced in the world, designed to offer a seamless experience for our guests before and after their cruise, setting a new benchmark for the industry,” MSC Group Cruise Division Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago said.
“This proud moment reflects our unwavering commitment to Miami and its vibrant community, a partnership that spans over 20 years.

“The terminal symbolizes our dedication to quality tourism, innovation, and we are grateful for the strong collaborations that have brought this vision to life.
“This incredible state-of-the art facility will not only enhance the travel experience but also bring significant economic benefits to the region, creating jobs and fostering growth in the local economy.”
Last week, MSC Group officially cut the ribbon on its sleek new cruise terminal in Barcelona, marking the occasion with the first visit of luxury ship EXPLORA II. Read about that here.
