Let it snow: Air Canada boosts SYD and BNE to Vancouver flights

Air Canada is increasing capacity on flights from Brisbane and Sydney to Vancouver for the 2023/24 northern winter season.

Air Canada is increasing capacity on flights from Brisbane and Sydney to Vancouver for the 2023/24 northern winter season.

Due to burgeoning demand in Queensland, Air Canada will replace its current 298-seater B787-9 Dreamliner service from Brisbane with its 400-seat B777-300ER aircraft.

From November, AC will fly five times per week and then move to a daily service from December to March. In total, the move will grow BNE-YVR capacity by 34 per cent.

Meanwhile, Sydney-Vancouver services will increase from daily to ten-times weekly between December and January.

The new services will depart SYD at 4pm, while current services will continue to depart at 12pm.

Elsewhere, AC has announced it will increase its seasonal Auckland-Vancouver flights between 31 October 2023 and 29 March 2024.

Utilising its B787-9 aircraft, AC will operate its NZ service three times per week in November before expanding to a record five times per week from December. This reflects an overall 20 per cent growth in capacity on the 2022/23 season.

“Travellers immediately embraced our services when we returned to the market following the pandemic,” Air Canada General Manager Australia and New Zealand Vic Naughton said.

“That enthusiasm has not waned, and we expect demand for seats to only intensify as we move into the winter season.”

Great gateway

The majority of winter services will still arrive in Vancouver in the early morning, allowing for quick access to BC’s snowfields – or indeed to transit through to the US.

“There is no doubt that YVR is now firmly established among Australian travellers as the friendliest and most efficient gateway to North America,” Naughton remarked.

“That is hardly surprising given Air Canada passengers proceed to their connecting flights without needing to re-check their bags or change terminals, while US-bound customers pass through US customs and immigration at YVR, enabling a quick exit once they touch down in the US.”

All flights from Australia and New Zealand will feature AC’s three-cabin service: Economy, Premium Economy and Signature Class (with lie-flat suits).
