Carnival Australia has announced a change in its leadership, with the resignation of Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises president Marguerite Fitzgerald for family reasons.

Carnival Australia has announced a change in its leadership, with the resignation of Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises president Marguerite Fitzgerald for family reasons.

Sydney-based Fitzgerald took up the dual roles in January 2022 when she replaced outgoing Carnival Australia boss Sture Myrmell.

“Marguerite’s relationship with Carnival Corporation goes back many years when she worked with multiple brands while as a partner with BCG [Boston Consulting Group],” a Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises Australia spokesperson said.

“She then took the opportunity to return home to Australia with her family accepting the role of President of P&O Cruises and Carnival Australia. She, along with our team, successfully led the return to cruise in the region and Australia.” 

“We would like to thank Marguerite for her significant contribution in restoring confidence and certainty in the industry and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

According to the spokesperson, P&O Cruises senior vice president guest experience, Peter Little will serve as interim leader “to guide the business through this transition”.

Little will report directly to US-based, CCL president Christine Duffy.

“Peter has vast experience with Carnival Corporation, having served in a number of leadership positions in Australia and in the UK during his tenure with the company,” they said.

Earlier this year, Carnival Australia added industry stalwart Katie Malone to the position of P&O Cruises Australia marketing director.

In March, CCL also became the first cruise line to host 100 million guests.
