Memphis blues to ring out over Australia at travel industry events

When it comes to musical cities, few (if any at all) rival Memphis - be it for blues, soul or rock n roll.

When it comes to musical cities, few (if any at all) rival Memphis – be it for blues, soul or rock n roll.

And in May, travel advisors will have the chance to experience the sounds of the city in person, when two of its musical stars perform at exclusive travel industry events in Sydney and Melbourne, thanks to Memphis Tourism and partner United Airlines.

Marcus Scott and The Bo-Keys will take part in both private concert events, giving agents and other trade partners a taste of Memphis music and the Blues on Broadbeach 2023 festival, where both acts are headlining.

Memphis native, Marcus Scott is widely considered the “Memphis Soul Man”. Known for his electrifying vocals and performances, he will be backed by outfit The Bo-Keys, who fuse traditional Memphis sounds with more contemporary tunes.

The exclusive Memphis Tourism events will take place at The Toff in Melbourne on 17 May and Sydney’s Zeta Bay on 18 May. The Blues on Broadbeach festival takes place on 18 – 21 May.

“Along with our valued partner United Airlines, Memphis Tourism is excited to give the industry an exclusive preview of the outstanding musicians performing at this year’s Blues on Broadbeach,” Memphis Tourism Australia and New Zealand Director Chris Ingram said.

“We’re very lucky to have such a high number of talented musicians hailing from Memphis and excited to be able to bring them here for these exclusive events as well as the festival.”

Beyond music

While inextricably linked to music (heard of Elvis?), Memphis isn’t just famous for its sounds. Exceptional food – including the city’s renowned BBQ – lots of history, especially around the American civil rights movement, and world-class hospitality also await those who venture to the southern US city.

Australians can travel to Memphis with United Airlines, flying Sydney-Houston-Memphis. Aussies can also access the city from Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney via Los Angeles or San Francisco.

So warm up those vocal cords, get your dancing shoes on and get ready to party with Memphis Tourism in May.
