Qantas travellers heading across the ditch this summer will have something new to look forward to, with the airline putting the finishing touches on its upgraded Auckland International Lounge. The space opens on 17 December, just as holiday demand ramps up and Qantas grows its trans-Tasman schedule.
A first look at the new facility shows the lounge is a major step up in size and feel. Qantas says the new footprint is 60 per cent larger than the previous space, now accommodating more than 370 guests across areas designed for dining, working and relaxing.
A key first for the airline is a dedicated à la carte dining room for Platinum One and Platinum Frequent Flyers. The seasonal menu, created by Qantas Creative Director of Food, Beverage and Service, Neil Perry, features local dishes alongside well-known Qantas favourites. The main dining area includes a buffet, gelato station and cocktail bar stocked with New Zealand produce and wine.
Travellers will also find 15 shower suites, expanded charging options at most seats and flexible seating zones.

“Our customers tell us the lounge experience is an important part of their journey, which is why we’re investing in our award-winning lounge network around the globe,” Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said.
“Auckland is a key hub connecting our customers across the Tasman and around the world, and this new lounge gives them more space and premium facilities to enjoy ahead of the holidays.
“The new Auckland lounge celebrates the best of New Zealand and has been thoughtfully designed for how our customers want to use the space, whether that’s working, relaxing over a meal, or freshening up during transit.”

According to the airline, designers David Caon and Gabrielle Penfold shaped the space around natural textures, artwork and greenery to reflect the Auckland landscape.
“Bringing the Auckland Lounge to life has been an incredible journey, shaped through collaboration with, Architectus, Akin Atelier and Simon James Design,” Caon said.
“We approached every element with careful attention to detail, pairing materials long associated with the airline’s palette with those introduced specifically to reflect the local region.
“Signature elements such as porthole windows and sweeping curved walls have been elevated with handmade glass and abundant natural greenery. The custom designed furniture throughout the lounge brings a sense of craftsmanship, creating a unique character that stays true to Qantas’ signature design.”
The opening comes ahead of further Qantas trans-Tasman expansion in 2026.
KARRYON UNPACKS: Lounge upgrades matter because they shape the premium customer experience, especially for frequent flyers and high-value clients. With more capacity and better dining, the new Auckland lounge strengthens the airline’s position on one of our most competitive routes. As Qantas adds more trans-Tasman options next year, this refreshed space also gives travel advisors another selling point – particularly for travellers chasing comfort during peak seasons.
