More than sun & surf: Hawaiʻi Tourism Oceania launches new video series

Anyone who’s been to Hawaiʻi can attest that there’s far more to do in the Aloha State than lying by the pool or beach (though that doesn’t sound too bad either!).

Anyone who’s been to Hawaiʻi can attest that there’s far more to do in the Aloha State than lying by the pool or beach (though that doesn’t sound too bad either!).

With this in mind, Hawaiʻi Tourism Oceania (HTO) has launched a new video series that urges travellers to enjoy a more diverse and deeper experience in Hawaiʻi.

Called Mālama Adventures: Journey with Aloha, the series takes a look at the connection the Hawaiian people have with their environment as well as the state’s unique culture and attractions. From learning to surf with Maui Surfer Girls to exploring the National Tropical Botanical Gardens on Kauaʻi, it’s all here.

The video series features Australian First Nations model and activist Samantha Harris.

HTO’s new initiative follows on from its ‘Mālama Hawaiʻi’ campaign that centres on the Hawaiian concept of mālama, which means to care for and protect.

Produced by content studio Vocal, the series covers the islands of Hawaiʻi, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Maui, as well as videos on the ocean (moana), community (kaiāulu), and land (āina).

Giving back

With a mission to promote responsible tourism and holidays beyond the beach, HTO says the new campaign encourages visitors to become “stewards” of the islands by giving back to “the land, ocean, wildlife, forests, fishponds, and communities” that make up the islands.

Among HTO’s sustainable tourism initiatives are beach clean-ups, native tree planting and the restoration of native fishponds.

“We’re thrilled to launch this amazing video series, transporting viewers to the heart and soul of Hawai’i,” Hawaiʻi Tourism Oceania Account Director Jennifer Gaskin says.

“The content not only showcases the islands’ beauty but also highlights the profound connections that make Hawaiʻi truly special.

“We invite travellers to become part of this enduring bond and contribute to the preservation of Hawaiʻi’s natural and cultural treasures.”

Vocal Business Director Tom Abood says it’s exciting “to be creating content that people will talk about and ultimately travel to Hawaiʻi to experience for themselves”.

“This type of content always holds a special place in our heart – a perfect blend of travel and purpose; we’ve created a series that celebrates the very best of Hawai’i,” he adds.

Hawaiʻi Governor Josh Green MD recently declared that the West Maui communities of Kā‘anapali, Nāpili, Honokōwai and Kapalua will fully reopen in early October.

Earlier this year, Karryon sat down with representatives from three of Hawai’i’s most popular islands – Maui, Oʻahu and Kauaʻi. Read our interview and why you should also stay ON the beaten path in Hawai’i.
