AMERICAN BEAUTY!: 5 reasons we are heading to North America, ASAP

The USA and Canada are filled with natural beauty, adventure and some of the best food you will find anywhere – take a break in North America.

The USA and Canada are filled with natural beauty, adventure and some of the best food you will find anywhere – take a break in North America.

Squeezing into a packed New York speakeasy bar, seeing a bear in the Canadian wilderness, or taking a road trip on the Californian coast past big waves and Big Sur. Some of the most iconic travel experiences you can imagine are all in North America – and they suit a couple’s getaway, a family holiday or a break with mates.

Foodies will love the variety on a North American trip whether it is revelling in the “dude food” of burgers, sliders and thick-crust pizza, sampling a mile-high Reuben in a New York deli or getting some Canadian comfort food (poutine, where have you been all my life!)

Here are 5 more reasons a North American getaway is the best:

Money, money, money

insight 3

The Aussie dollar never used to go that far in North America making travellers head to Asia over the US and Canada, but times have changed. Now one Australian dollar will buy you US75 cents and it has almost achieved parity in Canada.

That means that your money goes further so you can have an extra New York hot dog, get one more craft beer in Toronto or stay an extra night in Chicago.

Scenery for all seasons

insight 4

The natural beauty of this region is legendary, whether it is the yawning expanse of the Grand Canyon or the soaring peaks of the Canadian Rockies. This natural beauty changes with the seasons so you can catch the incredible colours of autumn on the street of Chicago; visit the Fairmont Chateau hotel that sits on the shores of Lake Louise in Canada, surrounded by mountainous terrain; or marvel at a remnant of the Ice Age at Alaska’s Glacier Bay.

Whatever you love about nature – desert, mountains, marshes or forest – you will find it in North America, so get your hiking boots on.

Parks and recreation

Insight Yosemite

The United States of America invented the idea of National Parks. In the 1800s they were one of the first places in the world to recognise, and protect, areas of great natural beauty – and it is an idea that travellers the world over have benefited from ever since.

Visit national parks poster child Yosemite National Park with valleys and mountains carved by glaciers, the untouched coastal majesty of the Channel Island National Park off the coast of California or the geysers and hot springs of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Northern bites

Insight 1

American cuisine is taking over Australia with burgers, sliders, ribs and barbecue joints opening up everywhere. But there is more to the US and Canada than fast food. There is the original New York take on Italian cuisine at the Del Posto Restaurant in New York, queue out the door in San Diego for the best Mexican food north of the border at Tacos El Gordo, or kick it old school at the celeb-packed, timeless LA hotspot that is Dan Tana’s.

Head to the Deep South for Cajun cuisine using the region’s amazing shrimp lobster and crab and we have Canada to thank for the incredible cuisine mash-up that is MAPLE BACON!

Grab a fork – North America is waiting.

Traveller numbers are up

insight 2

After an initial drop in tourist numbers recently – call it the “Trump Slump” if you will – travellers are on their way back to the US. And Canada, well that is only growing in popularity so get over there now.

Now is the perfect time to sell more North America, there are great stories, great food and great natural wonders. There are no language barriers, the financial barriers are being broken down by amazing exchange rates and you simply have to visit those national parks – America’s gift to the world.
