New Zealand's Calling: Sail Away On Silversea This Christmas & New Year

To herald in the trans-Tasman bubble and the much-anticipated resumption of trans-Tasman cruising later in the year, Silversea has launched a trip to celebrate and bring in an international Christmas and New Year for Australians.

To herald in the trans-Tasman bubble and the much-anticipated resumption of trans-Tasman cruising later in the year, Silversea has launched a trip to celebrate and bring in an international Christmas and New Year for Australians.

The trans-Tasman bubble marks the all-important first step toward the resumption of cruising in New Zealand.

To celebrate, Silversea has launched a trip over Christmas and New Year for Aussies to reconnect with their Kiwi neighbours and the incredible experiences the country offers.

“We are delighted that New Zealand has announced a travel bubble with Australia which is a big step towards resumption of trans-Tasman cruising, and we are looking forward to our travellers ending their year in luxury and exploring the beauty of both the North and South Island,” Silversea APAC Managing Director Adam Radwanski said.

Silversea New Zealand

Silver Muse will sail for 17 days departing Sydney in December and ending in Auckland. The trip will spend Christmas Day in Milford Sound and New Year’s Eve in Picton and Queen Charlotte Sound before a day at sea on the first day of 2022.

Christmas Day will be spent in Milford Sound, a fjord that is renowned for its dramatic topography. On New Year’s Eve, travellers will take in the vistas of the Queen Charlotte Sound and The Marlborough Sound with valleys that stumble into the water. Spoilt with bays, coves and islands, this is an ideal way to end the year.

Every day of the 17-day voyage brings a bucket list experience. There are the penguins and sea lions of the Otago Peninsula and the Scottish bastion of Dunedin with a hike to basalt columns 10 million years old, called the Organ Pipes. There are glow worm caves to be seen in the Bay of Islands, as well as the Hole in the Rock.

The Silversea voyage also offers experiences like a greenshell mussel farm visit accompanied by Marlborough wine on a half-day catamaran in the Marlborough Sounds, contrasted to an urban culture deep dive into craft brewing and chocolate in Wellington.

In Kaikoura, travellers will have a 95% chance of seeing giant sperm whales, dusky dolphins, orcas and humpback whales as well as a guarantee of New Zealand fur seals. In fact, one of Silversea’s shore excursions is the opportunity to swim with the wild and playful sea lions in the waters of Kaikoura. Another shore excursion on offer is a helicopter whale watching trip, which provides a magnificent aerial view of passing whales.

Edoras, Lord of the Rings

Lord of the Rings scenery is abundant, with a shore excursion in the Southern Alps, in particular Mt Sunday, which was the recognisable location of ‘Edoras’ in the films, home to the Rohan people. It is unspoiled and pristine terrain.
