From Mr Worldwide, Pitbull, to Miss Independent, Kelly Clarkson. Norwegian Cruise Line kept with the theme of talented musicians when selecting the Godparent of Norwegian Encore.

The Miami-based cruise line confirmed overnight that GRAMMY Award-winning Kelly Clarkson will be Godmother to Norwegian Encore when the ship launches in November.

SO, KELLY CLARKSON… WHY?

It does seem like a random pick, but then again Norwegian Cruise Line does like to surprise people.

The line has a history of selecting completely unexpected Godparents, including Pitbull who wow’d as Godfather for Norwegian Breakaway and the entire Miami Dolphins cheerleading squad who blessed Norwegian Getaway.

Now, Kelly Clarkson will take on the champagne-breaking duty because, according to Norwegian’s Andy Stuart, she represents the line’s “core values”.

The President and Chief Executive explained that she’s a role model who’s passionate about family and community, just like the cruise line.

“We are honored to have her join our family of godparents.”

Norwegian Encore will take the brand’s “exclusive, stand-out attractions to the next level”.

Onboard, the vessel will have the world’s longest race track at sea (stretching 335m), and the largest outdoor laser tag arena (930 square metres). There’ll also be an immersive escape room and interactive theatre.

The ship will debut a new Italian dining experience called ‘Onda by Scarpetta’ where guests can enjoy dishes and service by LDV Hospitality. Plus it’ll have ‘Kinky Boots’ the Tony Award-winning musical and more.

Kelly said she’s honoured to Godmother Norwegian Encore and encourage others to surround themselves with loved ones.

WHERE & WHEN CAN I CRUISE ON THE SHIP?

Norwegian’s newest ship will be christened on 21 November and set off on her inaugural itineraries from 24 November.

First trips include seven-day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean from Miami. This will be followed by Bermuda, Canada and New England sailings from 22 April 2020, and Western Caribbean trips from 12 December 2020.

Eventually, the ship will make her debut on the West Coast of the USA with sailings to Alaska and Seattle in 2021.
