Fast, affordable, reliable and secure internet connectivity is a non-negotiable for all travellers right now, particularly those travelling for work and digital nomads.
However, not all destinations offer the best internet connectivity for travellers with Australia in 14th place globally as European nations are the clear winners for click speeds.
While we came in at number 14 among 96 global destinations, travel eSIM Saily’s Internet Connectivity List placed Australia as the digital frontrunner for travel and remote work in the Oceania region.

Powered by NordVPN, Saily ranked each country’s internet attractiveness for travellers on cybersecurity, internet quality, affordability and internet freedom.
Australia offers sturdy cyber safety, accessible digital services and value for visitors with dependable internet in cities, although rural coverage varies.
While Australia leads its region in the index, our overall network speeds still trail those in Western Europe and East Asia.
Best internet connectivity

France achieved first place, followed by Denmark, Italy, Poland, Spain, Netherlands, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania and Austria, highlighting that European nations lead the way for travellers and digital nomads seeking a secure and trustworthy connection.
Finland, Canada, US and Germany stand out for cybersecurity, taking online protection seriously and offering secure connections and strong legal safeguards.
Meanwhile, countries like China and the UAE offer reliable infrastructure and top speeds, but score low on internet freedom, limiting connectivity in this way.

For low-cost, high-performance connectivity, Italy, France and Poland deliver affordability, performance and cyber safety. Budget travellers and remote workers alike get more for less in these countries.
However, North America offers quality at a cost. The US and Canada have some of the best networks globally, but at a much higher price point than Europe. Travellers should expect reliable access and a steeper bill.
