It's International Napping Day, and this is how ... zzz

To celebrate International Napping Day (March 14), we thought it high-time to talk about how you can catch some serious shut-eye whilst in the office, or on the plane. You decide.

To celebrate International Napping Day (March 14), we thought it high-time to talk about how you can catch some serious shut-eye whilst in the office, or on the plane. You decide.

Trust us, we know how hard it is to stay awake at the desk whilst you’re struggling to get the message across to the customer sitting in front of you that no, that “New York for $89” deal doesn’t include flights.

Many cultures around the world understand the benefits of a quick nap. In Spain and Latin American countries, they have the siesta. And in Japan, only recently mind you, some Japanese firms are giving their employees a forty-wink pass, encouraging them to take a 20-minute power nap whilst at work.

Kind of like what George Costanza used to do back in the day:

How great would it be if travel agents could do that in Australia?

“Hey Sarah, you have an irate customer on the phone for you. Apparently you didn’t inform them that they needed a visa when transiting in Vietnam… Sarah? … Sarah?”

(She’s asleep mate.)

“Oh yeah, sorry customer, Sarah is on her allocated sleep break. She’ll give you a call back later.”

Unfortunately, in Australia, travel agents can’t nap at work.

Imagine if you could?

Then this could be a common sighting around the country…

This is called the Ostrich Pillow and pretty much allows you to sleep anywhere – in full darkness too.

It’s based on what the ostrich does when it’s scared or afraid.

You can also take this bad boy up in the air with you for an enjoyable nap on a red-eye flight to London.

But perhaps the SkyDreamer pillow may be better for that.

It’s designed in a way to stop your head rolling forward during sleep by supporting the chin and keeping your head in an upright, comfortable position.

According to the creators of the SkyDreamer:

“The SkyDreamer was designed to eliminate [the head from rolling forward]… so that we can once again dream in flight and wake refreshed.”

The pillow is made from crinkled taffeta, cuddle suede and polyester fiberfill, and retails for about $100 and comes with a matching eye-mask.

Another new piece of technology that may help you get some sleep at 35,000 ft above the Earth is the Fly Legsup Flight Hammock.

This contraption attaches to the tray table in front of you and allows you to elevate your feet and legs mid-flight so you can have a more comfortable experience. It will also help reduce leg and foot swelling and may help reduce the risk of DVT.

Anyway, on behalf of KarryOn, we’d like to wish you all a happy International Napping Day.

May you all get a great night’s sleep!

Are you one of the lucky ones able to sleep on planes?
