TRAVEL INFLUENCERS IN THE DARK: Facebook's most severe outage EVER

Have you been madly trying to refresh your Facebook and Instagram feed today with no success? You're not alone. Facebook is suffering the most severe outage in its history.

Have you been madly trying to refresh your Facebook and Instagram feed today with no success? You’re not alone. Facebook is suffering the most severe outage in its history.

Imagine all those poor souls sitting at the airport who can’t even let their entire social media network know that they’re jetting off to Singapore in Business Class in two hours time.

Imagine all those poor influencers in their overwater bungalows in the Maldives, unable to share their every move on their Instagram story. WHY DID THE SUN EVEN BOTHER TO RISE TODAY? They ask themselves.

Hundreds of thousands of people across the globe will be doing some serious soul searching today. Stopping to consider: do I travel because I actually want to go places, or is it just to document my every move on social media and make my friends envious.

This is an existential crisis, people!

And what about all those companies right across the travel industry relying on Facebook and Instagram advertising to MAKE SALES and connect with their customers?

According to BBC the last time Facebook had a disruption this big was over a decade ago in 2008, when they had just 150 million users, compared to the 2.3 BILLION monthly users today.

Doesn’t it just make you stop and think about how much we rely on it? Not just for entertainment but for business too.

In an official statement, Facebook said they were working to fix the issue as soon as possible.

Of course, there are plenty of rumours about that it’s a cyber-attack but Facebook has categorically denied that.

We wait with anticipation to see how this unfolds. In the meantime, social media addicted travellers, stay strong.

How has the outage affected you today?
