Around 200 people have been denied boarding at Sydney Airport with cancelled tickets as Value World Travel falls into administration.
The agency – which mainly dealt with travel to India – are no longer answering their phones and have pulled down their website and Facebook page.
An estimated $3 million in customers’ money may be lost. Many of the affected customers were a part of Sydney’s Indian community and had purchased their flights with the failed agency to return home for Diwali and Christmas. The average ticket price was between $1200-$1400.
A new Facebook page, called Victims of Value World Travel, has been set up where affected consumers can discuss their plight.
The latest agency bust is giving the retail travel industry a bad name, and frustrated consumers are already voicing their concerns online.
Customers who have paid for their flights by credit card are advised to contact their financial institutions and see whether they are able to apply for a credit card chargeback. They should also check their travel insurance policies to see if they are covered.
