Aussie hospitality certified as 'excellent'

Australian tourism businesses topped this year's 2015 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence awards, with some 8,892 local hospitality companies walking away with the winning title.

Australian tourism businesses topped this year’s 2015 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence awards, with some 8,892 local hospitality companies walking away with the winning title.

Now in its fifth year, the award celebrates excellence in hospitality, including hotels, attractions and restaurants, and is handed to establishments that consistently achieve great traveller reviews on the review website.

For the second consecutive year, New South Wales businesses won the most awards, taking home some 2,538 awards – a 126 percent increase on the prior 12 months.

TripAdvisor – which now allows users to book through the service – revealed NSW was followed closely by Queensland, which won 2,146 awards.

Victoria had 1,826 winners, this was more than double the amount of winners the state received last year.

Western Australia also doubled its ‘Excellence’ businesses, with 895 winners, followed by South Australia, the Northern Territory and Tasmania.

In addition to having the second largest number of ‘Excellent’ tourism businesses in Australia, Queensland also had the highest number of ‘Hall of Fame’ winners.

Some of Queensland’s ‘Hall of Fame’ inductees include Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa  – Surfers Paradise; Palazzo Versace – Main Beach; Australia Zoo – Beerwah; Fraser Explorer Tours – Fraser Island; Zinc Port Douglas – Port Douglas; and Vivo Bar and Grill – Palm Cove.

The TripAdvisor ‘Hall of Fame’ is handed out to five-time award winners.

In total this year, there were around 29,042 ‘Fame’ inductees worldwide – around 582 came from Australia.

Queensland featured the most number of “Hall of Fame” winners in the country.

To qualify as a ‘Hall of Fame’ winner, a business must have won the award in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

“By putting a spotlight on businesses that are focused on delivering great service to customers, TripAdvisor not only helps drive an improvement to hospitality standards around the world, it also gives businesses both large and small the ability to shine and stand out from the competition.”
