Contiki has come out and defended itself for a second time this year after another public figure likened the tour operator to a messy situation.
In an interview with SMH Sport, Olympic Rugby Sevens Captain (and uber hottie), Ed Jenkins, told the Sydney Morning Herald that his first tournaments were “like a Contiki tour”, in that the team would travel to one destination, “change from tournament to tournament”, run through moves, play rugby on weekends and then hop on a plane to repeat in another stop.
Sounds a little rushed and messy.
Contiki heard about his comment and was all like, “squeeze me?!”
We wouldn’t be surprised if they also got a little cheesed off because this isn’t the first time this year a public figure bagged out the tour operator without having experienced the product for themselves.
Remember Barrister Alister Abadee? He compared the experience of unhappy river cruisers to the “inferior” treatment of “a backpackers’ Contiki tour”.
But instead of having a ‘BF’.
Or turning this into an all out war.
The youth tour operator decided to take the high road and respond with the same style and sophistication it brings to its tours.
The company took to Twitter to extend an invitation to Jenkins and his “boys” to “experience the REAL Contiki”.
Specifically in Vietnam.
The kind invitation worked wonders, because Jenkins responded with a “YES”!
The sports star tweeted back, saying he’ll take up the offer because he’s looking “for a post Olympic activity, what better way to spend it than in Vietnam”.
The company’s leaders said they’re looking forward to welcoming Jenkins and his boys.
“Ed’s experience with the Rugby Sevens sounded terrible! He obviously isn’t familiar with how Contiki rolls and our quality experiences so we decided to invite him and his teammates on a trip of a lifetime.”
Contiki
Nicely played.
Ummm so Contiki, what will it take to get us on that trip with Jenkins? Trash talk ya? 😉
@edjenkins86 @SMHsport interview. Why don’t you come experience the REAL Contiki? Vietnam trip on us if you’re keen boys! #goforgold
