Flight Centre’s Social Media Specialist, Millie Yervantian is giving KarryOn readers the exclusive scoop on Sunrise’s journey around the world with daily on location blogs.
Well it’s only day one of and it already feels like the biggest, most exciting whirlwind of all our lives.
As soon as the Sunrise cast and crew landed in Dubai we were all whisked to the exclusive and incredible Armani hotel in the Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world at more than 800m high. Mind-blowing!

Things are already hotting up
From there it was time to explore Dubai as both Flight Centre and Sunrise have been asking viewers on Social media to suggest what the cast should do in each location.
And so…
Kochie took on Kidzania, which is a utopian world where kids can experience what it’s like to be a grown up working for Kizania currency in jobs they want to be when they grow up.

Don’t look down!
Beretts headed to Dubai’s indoor ski field complete with mountainous slopes and arctic penguins and showed off those sports skills he keeps talking about.
Sam and Nat headed to the largest mall in the world where they shopped until they… well they didn’t actually drop, because the Dubai Mall is so large that you can actually drive buggies around it. The girls definitely took advantage of the buggies to store their haul of shoes that’s for sure! Think Imelda Marcos’s walk in shoe room on wheels… And you’re still not close.

Did someone say ice cold drink?
Then it was out to the Dubai’s spectacular desert for some duneing, camel riding and a bedouin candlelight dinner. But disaster struck, when we were told the desert was being hit by a giant thunderstorm.
But Michael Pell (Sunrise Executive Producer) wasn’t having a bar of it and given he’d promised viewers camels – camels was what he was going to give them! So heading right into the eye of the storm we drove through flood water up as high as our 4WD doors to catch the last patch of sunlight.

Working it desert style…
From there the camels took the Sunrise team off through the magical dunes of Dubai’s desert and into the dark horizon, except Beretts’ camel, who seemed to be struggling as the runt of the litter.
Next up was some pretty rough duneing in the 4WD to make it to our bedouin dinner, where we were met with a chorus of Emirate men singing their traditional welcome. Kochie and Sam got acquainted with some Dubai falcons and then we all settled into our pillows for an Arabian feast.

An Arabian feast
The next day Kochie hit the gym and the spa for a massage from a gent who used to work for the Romanian rugby team. Then the crew dressed up in their finest to head to the 125th floor of the Burj Khalifa, which offers the best views of Dubai.
Finally it was showtime! And the crew headed to the Burj Al Arab hotel via a specially designed Rolls Royce to have dinner before going live in Australia this morning at 6am until 9am (Midnight until 3am Dubai time).
So now it’s off to the airport at 6am to catch the next Qantas flight to London. Phew! Looking forward to that plane seat.
