February’s annual Flight Centre ‘World Travel Expo’ is often seen as the barometer for the industry when it becomes to gauging the new year sentiments of travellers. So how have they begun this year?

Playing host to a wide range of significant suppliers across every segment of the travel industry, the great Flight Centre Travel Group Expo roadshow this year is happening in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Townsville, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Peth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Canberra, Cairns and Darwin.

The 2020 Expo’s kicked off last Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of February in Sydney with Hobart and Townsville also joining the party with their own shows on Sunday.

Sydney saw a strong pre-registration from punters keen to grab one of the many exclusive travel bargains on offer at the event.

While numbers were reportedly slightly down on Saturday due to a 40 degree plus day, Flight Centre still reported strong sales in line with their targets for the event with Sunday seeing plenty of activity and quality bookings.

Speaking exclusively to Karryon about the Sydney event, National Events Leader for Flight Centre Travel Group, Logan McKewan reported:

“The feedback so far has been great and bookings strong. Overall, we’re pleased with how this year’s Expos’s have begun,”

Given the ongoing bushfire situation here at home and the growing Coronavirus outbreak potentially quelling travellers desire to travel, the question was whether people would still be keen to commit to booking in the short or long term future.

“People are still very keen to travel and don’t seem to be overly concerned when it comes to booking right now.”

Logan added that “The USA, Uk and Europe, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and Indonesia especially saw big bookings with travellers keenly on the hunt for bargains.”

Domestic Australian bookings were also reportedly healthy with bushfire regeneration initiatives such as AAT Kings ‘Bushfire Relief Giveback trips‘ performing well.

All of the Expo’s feature guest speakers and the chance for registered attendees to win a choice of 4 dream holidays including;

  • A 15 Day Luxury Europe River Cruise thanks to APT
  • A 9 Day Classic Peru Tour thanks to Intrepid
  • A 5 Night All-Inclusive Resort Stay thanks to ClubMed
  • An 8 Day Greek Island Adventure thanks to Globus

This coming weekend sees the World Travel Expo’s roll into Melbourne on Saturday and Sunday and The Gold Coast on Sunday.
