One incredibly lucky traveller attended Flight Centre’s annual Travel Expo in the hopes of booking a discounted holiday, but instead she walked away with a free trip.

Queenslander Donna McCarthy was named the winner of the ‘Once in a Lifetime’ major prize, which gave her the choice of five holidays – an African safari with Bench International; an Everest Base Camp trek from Intrepid; a Rio Carnival Tour with Toucan Travel; the Luxury India escorted journey with Insight Vacations; or a Hurtigruten Northern Lights voyage.
And she chose, drum roll… the Hurtigruten Northern Lights voyage.
Valued at $9,500, the trip for two includes return airfares, a Norway Coastal voyage and all meals.
According to McCarthy, Norway has been high on the travel bucket list for some time and she’d actually attended the Travel Expo in hopes of researching a similar holiday for her forthcoming 50th birthday.
“I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights and go to South Africa, so to have the opportunity to choose between these two holidays was incredible.”

McCarthy added that this was also her first time winning something so big and initially thought someone was playing a joke on her. Now we’re glad she won.
