Flight Centre to the rescue! Travel group has an offer for Dick Smith staff

Newly acquired businesses and growing profits have created a few vacancies over at Flight Centre and what better way to fill those roles than by making them available to outgoing Dick Smith employees.

Newly acquired businesses and growing profits have created a few vacancies over at Flight Centre and what better way to fill those roles than by making them available to outgoing Dick Smith employees.

A Flight Centre spokesperson confirmed to KarryOn this morning that the travel group is giving nearly 2,500 Dick Smith employees facing redundancy the chance to cross over into travel by fast tracking them to the final stage of the hiring process.

This will put them at the forefront for roles in sales plus other supporting positions. Those interested should contact anewstart@flightcentre.com for more information.

Flight Centre’s Human Resources Director, Carol Cooper, told News.com.au that the travel company sympathises with Dick Smith employees and thinks that their “good customer service skills” will make them an asset.

“We sympathise with the tough position these employees are in and recognise that they have good customer service skills and sale experience that we believe would make them an asset to our company.”

The offer was made to Dick Smith’s administrators, Ferrier Hodgson, last week when the insolvency company revealed all 301 stores across Australia and New Zealand would close their doors over the next eight weeks.

“Now that all avenues for a sale of the Dick Smith business in Australia and New Zealand have been exhausted, the receivers and managers have no option but to commence a controlled closure program.”

A letter to Business Insider reads

Some 2,500 staff will be affected by the shutdowns including 430 people in New Zealand. Currently, staff have been retained to manage the ‘fire sale’, which has items reduced by at least 20-40 percent.
