Say farewell to basic, old school itineraries, and hello to interactive documentation featuring personalised offers, live updates and... two way messaging.

Say farewell to basic, old school itineraries, and hello to interactive documentation featuring personalised offers, live updates and… two way messaging.

A new era of travel itineraries is arriving through Flight Centre Travel Group’s latest acquisition, Umapped.

For those who don’t know, Umapped is a Toronto-based technology company that has created software described as ‘revolutionary’ for allowing Travel Agents to deliver interactive travel documentation to their clients.

What exactly makes it so interactive and ‘revolutionary’?

Well, unlike your current static documents, Umapped has created an upgraded itinerary capable of real-time communication and immediate updates.

For example, if a Travel Agent and customer are looking at the itinerary in different locations, the client can request a change through real-time communication and watch on as the itinerary live updates as the consultant makes the adjustment.

Flight Centre’s Chief Executive, Graham Turner, said the agency group believes the Umapped platform will have a “positive impact” on Travel Agents’ productivity and the customer experience.

Aside from the ‘living itinerary experience’, Flight Centre said other benefits of Umapped’s documentation are the “better templates” and personalised features.

“We continue to invest in systems and teams that can surface our expertise, but also make millions of engagements with our customers easier and more personal.”

Flight Centre will use general cash to fund the acquisition of Umapped, which includes the software and a team of 16 people. Umapped’s Founder, Lisa Israelovitch, and Chief Technology Officer, Thierry Wong, will continue to run the business and will report to Flight Centre Travel Group’s Chief Digital Officer, Atle Skalleberg.

The Travel Group hopes to deploy Umapped’s software across its agencies in several countries within the next 12 months.
