Intrepid is giving travellers a really generous reason to book a holiday in Nepal, by donating all profits made on the next season to charities.

The announcement comes a little over a month after the country was hit by a 7.8 magnitude quake, which caused major devastation to buildings and homes.

Over 7,500 were reported to have died after the initial quake, while thousands more have been left homeless and forced to taking up residence in tents.

A number of travel companies, including Intrepid, United Airlines and G Adventures have launched fundraising appeals to support the popular tourist destination.

Adventure specialist, Intrepid Travel, announced this week it is taking it one step further, with a million dollar campaign that will see all profits from trips to Nepal from September 2015 through May 2016 will be distributed by The Intrepid Foundation to a range of international and local charities such as KEEP, a project that works for porters’ welfare and education.

Named ‘The Namaste Nepal’ campaign, it is in addition to the AU$400,000 raised through The Intrepid Foundation to support Plan International’s emergency relief support to families in Nepal.

Intrepid Travel co-founder Darrell Wade will be visiting Nepal in June to meet with staff in Kathmandu, as well as local and international aid organisations to identify charitable projects that are in most need of support from the company’s million dollar fundraising campaign.

“The generosity of our travel community has been inspiring. People clearly care about Nepal and the Nepalese people as much as we do.”

James Thornton, Intrepid Travel Managing Director

“The question we’ve been asked most about Nepal is simply: how can I help? We’ve spoken to our local team in Nepal and concluded that the best thing we can do now is to visit the country.”

He continued, saying tourism is Nepal’s largest industry and without it the Nepalese will find it difficult to earn a living.

“As the largest guided tour operator in Nepal, we believe it is important for Intrepid to lead the way and support the country when it needs us most,” he added.
