Today, I read my holiday horoscope and it said: “I wish I could pole dance with a hipster at a wedding destination.”
Uhhh hell yeah I do – except I might need a few drinks beforehand and maybe we can replace the hipster with a sexy military man and I’m going to need someone (extremely strong) to hold me up on the pole.
Meanwhile, my manager and KarryOn’s Editorial Content Director, Julia, should be ‘popping out of a cake at a health retreat with a party animal’ and our Campaign Manager, Stephanie, should plan to ‘salsa dance in Las Vegas with her most random mate’.
These travel ideas may sound crazy and to some a little ridiculous, but don’t the best travel stories emerge from completely random, bizarre events that could never have been pre-planned?
According to a new study conducted by lastminute, com.au, Aussies have forgotten the joy of spontaneity and are currently over planning their holidays and leaving absolutely nothing to chance.
Research showed work commitments to be a major Debbie Downer when it comes to spontaneous getaways because 52 percent saying it prevents them from just picking up and going on holidays, while 62 percent admitted to loving routines too much to just head off on a trip.
Of those that are willing to let loose and plan a last minute escape, 72 percent said they’d only take an eleventh hour getaway if it’s domestic…
Lastminute.com.au is hoping to shake Aussies out of their routines and encourage them to live in the moment with new ‘Cards of Spontaneity’, which when combined can create unique travel ideas.
How does it work?
Players to pick up one card from each of the three colour categories until they’re cooked up the most epic trip imaginable. The categories include ‘I wish I could’, ‘At’ and ‘With’ and are designed to encourage Aussies to start thinking outside the holiday box labelled ‘bleeding obvious’.
Here’s an example of the crazy trips some of us here at KarryOn created:
“If you’re trying to avoid the silly season madness, or you just take pleasure in giving your friends major social media envy, it’s time to escape the daily grind and take that one last minute getaway for the year.”
