Qantas LA services return: Future is looking bright for Brisbane Airport

BNE and LAX will once again be connected when Qantas services between Brisbane and Los Angeles resume today after a two-year hiatus. At the same time, the airport is gearing up for a booming Easter break.

The five times per week direct services between BNE and LAX will be operated on an A330-200 aircraft, with flights departing BNE at 10:00am and departing LAX at 10:20am.

Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the return of the US market was another important step in restoring, and growing, Queensland’s direct connections with the world.

He said the US market would be vital to the State’s recovery from the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism, trade and freight sectors.

“Being able to reconnect with the west coast of America after 24 long months is incredible news for Queensland, and I have no doubt the pent-up demand for travel, in both directions, will see these services fill quickly,” Mr De Graaff said.

“Qantas’ longstanding commitment to the state has always reflected its origins as a Queensland airline. Prior to the pandemic plans were well advanced on direct services to San Francisco and Chicago. We hope to see these plans become a reality once again, later this year.

“BAC looks forward to working with Qantas and Team Queensland to do just that.”

Travellers exploring closer to home and heading to Brisbane Airport’s Domestic Terminal this Easter school holiday period have been advised should plan ahead and allow extra time to get to, and through, the airport.

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) spokesperson Rachel Bronish said the holiday period is expected to be the busiest for the Domestic Terminal since the beginning of the pandemic and that passengers should expect longer processing times at the airport.

“We have seen some extraordinary growth within the domestic market over the past few months, and the upcoming Easter school holiday period will be no different, with passenger numbers expected to climb further.

“To make the airport experience stress-free and help ensure everyone gets away on time, we’re encouraging domestic travellers to arrive two hours ahead of their scheduled departure,” Ms Bronish said.

The airport also recommends passengers jump online and book car parking as far in advance as possible.
