Have you always wanted to see the Oberammergau Passion Play? Collette is giving you the chance to take advantage of this special offer and attend the bucket-list experience that only happens once every ten years in 2022.
In a long-held tradition dating back to 1634, the once-in-a-decade event that is the legendary Oberammergau Passion Play was scheduled to be performed in the tiny Bavarian hamlet in May 2020 but due to the pandemic was postponed.
The exciting news is that the event has been rescheduled for 2022 and to celebrate this, Collette is offering visitors a special discount of $500 per person off every tour, on every date which includes the Passion Play and land touring.
So what even is the Passion Play?
Firstly, did we mention that it only happens once every ten years? All the more reason to see it sooner rather than later.
Oberammergau’s devout villagers first performed this play in 1634 in the hope that they would be spared the devastating effects of the Black Death plague which was decimating Europe.
Miraculously, the villagers survived the pandemic and as a token of their thanks to God, they have continued to perform their passion play every 10 years ever since.
With Australians looking forward to the return of international travel, the Passion Play is a bucket-list experience not to be missed.
Meeting the locals, hearing about the long-standing traditions of the villagers who were either born in Oberammergau or who have lived there for over 20 years and who have the right to audition for 2000 roles as performers, musicians or technicians, is all part of the excitement of this spectacular show.
James Hewlett, Head of Marketing, Collette Australia, said, “Guests can book their Collette Oberammergau tour knowing that Collette’s policy is a money-back refund in the event of cancellation of the tour.
“For ultimate flexibility guests can add Collette’s cancellation waiver ($495pp) and cancel for any reason up to 24 hours prior to departure.”
Collette’s suite of pre and post-tours includes Discover Switzerland featuring Switzerland, Austria and Bavaria including Lucerne, Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Bavaria.
Quaint villages and castles, tranquil lakes and a visit to Austria’s oldest restaurant, St Peters, combine with the magnificent Passion Play experience.
For those looking for a relaxing river cruise experience, Classic Danube brings music and history together, cruising past the famed cities of Budapest, Vienna and Munich with resplendent castles and charming villages dotted along the banks, replete with the Passion Play.
Kicking off in Oberammergau with the Passion Play, the Switzerland & Germany with Oberammergau Passion Play tour visits Zermatt with its postcard-perfect view of the iconic Matterhorn, the luxuriant Black Forest and elegant Lucerne juxtaposed between lakes and iced mountains.
The best options for guaranteed departure dates are currently 14 and 17 September 2022.
Collette says there is still good availability from June to October, but tickets are selling fast so early booking is essential.
