For 45 years, it has stood as a powerful platform of not only protest but also celebration of LGBTQIA+ lives. And next year, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade will continue this sparkling tradition. But with a strong vision into the future.
Untangle your feather boas and get your bedazzling guns out. The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade is set to return to the streets of Sydney on Saturday 2 March 2024!
With its iconic route along Oxford St, Flinders St, and Anzac Pde, next year’s parade revolves around the theme ‘Our Future…’.
But Our Future…’ is not just a theme, says Gil Beckwith, Acting CEO of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
“It’s a call to action, a bold invitation to define and shape our path forward as a community.
“It acknowledges our past, but also encourages us to envision what comes next.”

“It’s a statement that is open to interpretation and engagement, irrespective of geographical location or physical attendance. It’s our collective journey and story to share.”
To Beckwith, Our Future… is about collective ownership and the power to manifest endless possibilities.
Because that’s what Mardi Gras is, right? Yes, it’s a pretty dazzling spectacle. But it also brings together diverse communities, showcases their resilience and inspires hope for a more inclusive and accepting world. Whether you’re participating or cheering on from the sidelines, Mardi Gras is about uniting under the banner of love, diversity, and pride. And hopefully marching into a future that embraces equality and acceptance for all.

So get ready to be part of an unforgettable night that commemorates our past triumphs and empowers us to envision a brighter and more inclusive tomorrow.
Stay tuned for the full Festival calendar, which promises to be a big celebration of resilience, diversity, and unity. And as the event draws near, submit your 2024 Parade application at mardigras.org.au/2024-parade-applications/.
