HOW WILL THE PROJECT HELP THE REEF?

The aim of the project is to stimulate the recovery of the coral reef. This will be done providing Reef Ecologic with the tools and funds to expand their coral gardening program, which grows fragments of coral on frames to be replanted in robust colonies.

G Adventures’ guests will be able to assist by learning about the Whitsundays, the Great Barrier Reef and reef recovery. They’ll also take part in snorkelling activities over a “Proudly Supported by G” coral garden.

Additionally, Reef Ecologic will receive an ongoing donation for every G Adventures traveller who experiences the project. More than 1,500 are expected to visit the project in its first year.

WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT THIS PROJECT?

If you care about the ongoing survival of our ocean life, then you should probably care about this.

For a more formal explanation, G Adventures’ Mike McBride said it’s important for travellers to not only appreciate the beauty of the Reef but have an understanding of the fragility of these ecosystems.

“We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the conservation of this natural wonder.”

Mike McBride, G Adventures Regional Operations Manager Australia & New Zealand
