Agents can rest assured that Scenic Eclipse will launch in August because Scenic just booked a Hollywood star to help with the christening.

Scenic appointed Dame Helen Mirren as the Godmother of Scenic Eclipse, which means anyone attending the christening on 10 September 2019 in New York City will be in the presence of The Queen.

The announcement was made this week, with Founder and Chairman of the travel company, Glen Moroney, saying that a “unique ship” needs an “equally unique” godmother.

WHY WAS HELEN MIRREN CHOSEN?

Despite being equally as unique as the World’s First Discovery Yacht, Moroney said Mirren’s “style, beauty and spirit of adventure” embody those in the design of Eclipse.

“We are delighted to welcome Helen Mirren as Scenic Eclipse Godmother… combined with the international acclaim as one of the world’s finest actresses, she makes the perfect Godmother to preside over the ship.”

Glen Moroney, Scenic Founder & Chairman

As part of her Godmother duties, Mirren will be responsible for breaking a bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull. This will happen in the presence of cruise line officials, passengers and special guests.

Honoured to be selected, Mirren described the Expedition Yacht as a “beautiful vessel” that will accommodate cruisers in “immaculate style”.

“She will have many adventures and a wonderful life as she transports her guests in immaculate style and great safety to beautiful places.”

WHEN WILL SCENIC ECLIPSE SET OFF ON HER FIRST ADVENTURE?

Although the champagne-cracking christening with Helen Mirren will take place in September, Scenic Eclipse will officially launch next month.

The ship’s inaugural trip will be a 13-day Discovery Sailing departing Reykjavik in Iceland on 15 August and ending in Quebec on 27 August.
