SILVER MOON: Silversea's unique new dining venue will take cruisers to shore

Dining on Silversea's new ship will start on land as the cruise line turns everyone's favourite onboard activity (not a proven fact but let's be honest) into a shore excursion.

Dining on Silversea’s new ship will start on land as the cruise line turns everyone’s favourite onboard activity (not a proven fact but let’s be honest) into a shore excursion.

Called .S.A.L.T. (an acronym for Sea and Land Taste), the new dining concept will debut on Silver Moon in August next year, as a place for cruisers to eat, learn and enjoy.

Speaking to media, Silversea Cruises’ Adam Armstrong described the concept for .S.A.L.T. as a cruising first as it not only covers eating but on-land activities.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE DINING VENUE?

Silver Moon‘s .S.A.L.T. will be divided into three areas – the kitchen, the bar and the lab.

.S.A.L.T. Kitchen will be one of eight restaurants onboard the ship and it’ll invite guests to order off a menu that changes with the local destination. The food on offer at one port won’t be the same as that at another port.

Armstrong said the large-scale regional restaurant is a “sensible concept” that no other cruise line is currently doing.

Outside the kitchen, there’s .S.A.L.T. Bar where guests can enjoy pre-and-post dinner drinks. All of which will also be inspired by the local destination.

Guests will be able to sample flavours of the visiting country through a selection of wines, spirits and other drinks.

But it’s outside the bar and at .S.A.L.T. Lab where the point of difference really kicks in.

The Lab is Silversea’s first cooking demonstration area where cruisers will learn to cook using produce that they purchased personally from the local region.

Guided by the ship’s culinary team, guests will be able to source their own ingredients during an onshore excursion, take them back to the ship and make a meal in the lab. That’ll help them develop an appreciation for regional food and culinary customs on the vessel.

“It’s a really exciting new culinary development.”

Adam Armstrong, Silversea Cruises Senior Vice President & Managing Director Australia & New Zealand
