Powerful winds have led to the cancellation of nearly 100 flights departing from and arriving at Sydney Domestic Airport this morning.
A look at the Sydney Airport’s website shows that more than 50 inbound and over 40 outbound domestic flight were cancelled.
“Yesterday evening Airservices Australia advised airlines of the possibility of single runway operations today due to potential strong winds at the airport,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson said.
“As a result, a number of airlines have decided to consolidate services.
“Passengers who are travelling today are advised to get in touch with their airline to check the status of their flights.”

The airport told Karryon this morning Airservices Australia had not yet ordered operations to a single runway.
However, Airservices Australia later enacted single runway operations at Sydney Airport due to strong westerly crosswinds.
“This adheres to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) safety regulations for runway usage in crosswinds,” an Airservices Australia said.
“This decision is purely weather and safety-related to safeguard the travelling public.”
“Safety is Airservices’ No.1 remit.”
According to the ABC, one passenger’s South Australian holiday had been halved due to multiple flight cancellations.
“We got here last night and our replacement flight has just been cancelled, so we have to come back tomorrow,” she said.
“It’s just a juggle, I had to sit down and find somewhere to breastfeed, which is not their fault, but it’s an extra juggle with a little tiny one.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecast winds reaching up to 90 kilometres per hour from this morning.
