Mega store coming! Sydney Airport revamps retail experience with new deal

Sydney Airport has announced a new partnership with Lagardère AWPL to revamp its domestic travel essentials retail offering in T2 Domestic.

Sydney Airport has announced a new partnership with Lagardère AWPL to revamp its domestic travel essentials retail offering in T2 Domestic.

Marking a major upgrade in passenger shopping at Australia’s busiest airport terminal, the 2,500-square-metre contract will see the introduction of new concepts, including LEGO stores and a revamped Relay store across 14 locations.

Once ready, passengers will be able to find a wider range of products, from technology and pharmacy items to news, books and convenience goods.

A mega store of over 650 square metres in T2 Domestic will be one of the largest travel essentials stores in Australia.

The airport says the decision will reshape the retail landscape for the airport’s 27 million annual domestic passengers, promising a more convenient and diverse shopping experience than ever before.

“We’re flipping the script on the traditional travel essentials model to deliver a new and fresh concept for travellers who desire more from their airport experience at Australia’s busiest airport terminal,” Sydney Airport Group Executive Commercial Mark Zaouk said.

“Our goal is to create a collaborative environment where anything is possible, ensuring that customer service goes beyond five stars to deliver a world-class experience, and Lagardère AWPL’s creative vision aligns perfectly with that goal – we’re excited to see their plans realised at our domestic terminals.”

LagardereAWPL CEO Costa Kouros echoed Zaouk, saying “We are delighted to be awarded the Travel Essentials portfolio at T2 and T3 Domestic terminals at Sydney Airport”.

“Our new Travel Essentials offering at Sydney Airport will see the experience transform with the addition of new categories and products,” he added.

“The new offerings will also showcase our commitment to sustainability, from material selection to waste and energy reduction.”

Meanwhile, Sydney Airport has also announced that XPENG, a global leader in smart electric vehicles, will open its first Aussie flagship showroom in its domestic precinct later this year.

Sydney Airport is in the midst of the busy NSW school holiday period, during which it expects around 2.5 million passengers to pass through its terminals – an increase of 200,000 travellers to last year’s September holidays.
