PONANT’s is celebrating after its ship Le Commandant Charcot reached the geographic North Pole for the very first time.

Le Commandant Charcot, PONANT’s first LNG-powered hybrid electric luxury polar exploration vessel, reached the geographic North Pole on Monday 6 September at 6:38pm (AEST).

Captain Etienne Garcia was at the helm, with Captain Marchesseau at his side.

This is the very first French ship to reach the North Pole (90,00,000°).

“I am hugely proud to have been at the helm of the very first French ship to reach the geographic North Pole, it is the ultimate achievement of a collective adventure started by PONANT many years ago.

“I am very grateful to the crew and all the staff on board that have contributed to making this possible,” said Captain Etienne Garcia.

Le Commandant Charcot is also the very first LNG-propelled ship to reach that destination.

With Le Commandant-Charcot, PONANT says it has imagined and envisaged the cruise voyage of tomorrow.

The latest addition to the fleet will take you following in the footsteps of the great polar explorers in refined surroundings complete with the kind of luxury services never before offered in the farthest reaches of the southern and northern hemispheres.
