Your Christmas planning should well and truly be in full swing. Here’s your essential guide as an Aussie agent to get your @rse into gear for a five star festivus.

1. Christmas cards now

If you’re anything like us there are hundreds to sign. We are going the custom job for something a little bit fun. If that’s the case you need to place your order, buy stamps, check sizes, two weeks ago. Have your staff warm up their hands because it looks nice if you actually add a personal touch to the cards with a real signature.

Hint: 10 times packs of 10 Christmas cards from the newsagent sent on December 15 won’t cut it.

2. Plan your non-availability

Some businesses close between Christmas and New Year’s. Others don’t. Is there a more boring few days of the year to work? No there is not. Is there a more upsetting few days of the year to work? No there is not. Do you really want to be working in between Christmas and New Year’s? No you do not.

Hint: He/She who has the best excuse with the greatest geographical spread has the best chance of not needing to be there. “I will be at the cricket” does not always cut it.

3. The work Christmas party

The key parameters to keep in mind include:

If you fancy shagging someone, start the ground work now – Christmas parties are a great way to hook up
If you are not serious about a long-term future and you will be sitting next to this person, think twice about point one
If you are a boss, you should be looking at the first point with utter disdain
You should also leave several hours before your staff do and offer them some Flex about when they can start work the next day
Use your lessons from Christmas travel league
If there is a fancy costume start shopping around now

4. Pressies for your colleagues

A little, well considered something, accompanied by a nice card saying three nice things about someone who you sat next to all year always goes down well. If you are buying pressies, put some thought into it and get them delivered somewhere secure.

If not, underwear shaped like animals and the cup with some amusing anecdotes about the drinker is always a great fallback. Not.
