The Himalayas Are Visible Again Thanks To A Drop In Air Pollution

A lockdown across India has resulted in a great reduction in air pollution levels, clearing the skies for the Himalayas to become visible for the first time in 30 years.

A lockdown across India has resulted in a great reduction in air pollution levels, clearing the skies for the Himalayas to become visible for the first time in 30 years.

It’s amazing how quickly nature can reset, given the chance.

SBS Hindi is reporting that people in the Jalandhar district of Punjab in India have never seen anything like this before.

“We can see the snow-covered mountains clearly from our roofs,” local environmental campaigner Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal told the publication.

“And not just that, stars are visible at night. I have never seen anything like this in recent times,” he said.

Locals have taken to social media to share the “mesmerising” and “beautiful” images of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas that has now become visible from their homes.

According to the India Today Data Intelligence Unit (DIU) from March 16-27, the air quality index improved by 33 per cent on an average in the country.

Results revealed that India’s air quality started showing improvements from the first day of the 21-day lockdown.

It will be interesting to see if these incredible views become sharper as air pollution continues to drop.
